My greatest inspiration is my daughter Ila; she inspires me to be a better person in every aspect of my life. She is also my biggest source of joy; which is important because I think everyone needs a bit of joy to be inspired.
Artistically I draw a great deal of inspiration from painters like: Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Rubens, Modigliani, Mondrian, Sargent, and van Gogh. I grew up painting and drawing and had great mentors through out my life that helped foster my love and appreciation for art. Everything I create is inspired directly or indirectly from their work. It’s humbling and motivating when you study the work of the masters as it gives you perspective on things like lighting, posing, emotion, composition etc.
Like most photographers, I also have been inspired by prominent photographers like; Herb Ritts, Yousuf Karsh, Steven Meisel, Matthew Rolston, Mark Seliger, and Nino Muñoz. Herb Ritts is my biggest photographic inspiration though; even before I knew his name I was in love with his work in magazines. Ritts has an uncanny ability to create intimate yet well-designed images that are executed with technical prowess. I love that he pushed himself as an artist and continually evolved through out his career concentrating on different aspects of photography.
